Iran to pilot gasoline subsidy transfer to bank cards

Iran is implementing new measures to manage fuel consumption and modernize its refueling infrastructure. A pilot program will transfer gasoline subsidies from traditional fuel cards to bank cards in five provinces, with plans for a nationwide rollout by the end of the year.

In conjunction with this transition, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company is testing a new system for emergency station cards. Currently being piloted at two stations in Tehran, this initiative involves assigning unique identifiers to emergency cards to allow for better tracking and control of transactions. If successful, this system will be implemented across the country within two months. These emergency cards are not being eliminated but are being restructured to ensure more accurate consumption management.

Additionally, officials are emphasizing the diversification of the national fuel basket. Efforts are underway to increase the use of CNG, LPG, and electricity for electric vehicles. Reports indicate that CNG consumption has reached approximately 17 million cubic meters per day, and authorities aim to transition around four million dual-fuel vehicles to alternative energy sources.
