Iran implements new gasoline quota and fuel card regulations
The National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company has introduced new regulations regarding gasoline subsidies and fuel card usage to increase transparency and prevent unauthorized distribution.
According to Abbas Basafa, manager of the smart fuel system, the 1,500-toman gasoline quota can be stored for a maximum of three months, with a storage cap of 180 liters. If the quota is not used within this period, new quotas will not be added to the existing balance. In contrast, the 3,000-toman gasoline quota cannot be carried over to subsequent months and must be consumed within the current month.
Additionally, a new initiative to identify transactions made via emergency fuel cards has launched at 100 gas stations in Tehran. This system requires drivers to authenticate using a valid bank card to receive a four-digit code for fueling. The plan aims to ensure that 95 percent of fueling is done with personal cards, reducing the current reliance on station emergency cards, which has reached 40 to 45 percent of transactions.
