Iran weather alerts: Severe storms and flooding trigger widespread rescue operations

Severe weather systems across Iran have triggered widespread orange and yellow alerts from the Meteorological Organization. The storms are characterized by heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and potential hail, affecting approximately 20 provinces.

In northern provinces, including Gilan, Mazandaran, and Golestan, intense rainfall has caused significant flooding. The Red Crescent Relief and Rescue Organization reported that 568 people required assistance during operations in these regions. Rescue efforts included evacuating water from 54 residential properties and rescuing 335 passengers from 107 vehicles trapped on blocked roads.

Other regions facing risks include Tehran, where warnings were issued for flash floods, landslides, and sudden temperature drops. Southern and western provinces, such as Khuzestan and parts of Kerman and Hormozgan, are also under alert for localized storms, dust storms, and rising river levels. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid traveling through mountainous areas, staying near riverbeds, or engaging in outdoor activities during this period.
