Iran judiciary expands digital services and carries out qisas sentence for murder of martyr
The Iranian Ministry of Justice reported that about 40% of its services are now non‑attendance, with AI‑driven tools helping lawyers file roughly 70% of their drafts online. The Centre for Statistics and Information Technology highlighted automated portals for lawyers, law students and the public, aiming to speed up case handling and improve transparency.
In a separate criminal case, Araf Khoshkar, convicted of killing martyr Salman Ami‑Rahmani during the 2022 Tehran protests, was sentenced to qisas (retributive death) by Iran’s Supreme Court. After a trial confirming the use of a shotgun and grenades that caused fatal head injuries, the execution was carried out following the family’s request.
Both developments illustrate the judiciary’s simultaneous push toward digital modernization and strict enforcement of capital punishment in high‑profile murder cases.
