Iran sentences twin sisters to death and 25 years in prison
Iranian twin sisters Taraneh and Romina Rahimi have been sentenced to death and 25 years in prison, respectively, for their alleged participation in anti-government protests in January. According to testimony from their cousin, Masoud Nourmohammadi, the sisters were arrested at night by masked men identified as members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The case has drawn international condemnation, with the United States and 30 other nations issuing a joint statement regarding the execution of protesters in Iran. This incident is part of a broader pattern of state repression, with reports indicating that over 500 people have been executed in Iran this year, including many connected to recent protests.
