Iran judiciary undergoes major reshuffle of nine senior officials

The Iranian judiciary has undergone a significant management reshuffle, resulting in the removal of nine senior officials. These changes impact several key institutions, including the Prisons Organization, the Tehran Judiciary, and the General Inspection Organization, as well as various security and supervisory structures.

Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei has indicated that further changes are imminent, including the appointment of a new head for the Supreme Court and heads of judiciaries in 14 other provinces. These shifts occur alongside recent legislative actions, such as the approval of a bill to ‘combat foreign influence,’ and leadership changes within the IRGC and Basij, including the appointment of Hossein Taeb to lead the Basij.

Legal experts and former officials suggest these moves may be more than routine administrative adjustments. There are concerns that the reshuffle, particularly regarding the leadership of the prisons and Tehran's judiciary, could influence the handling of political and security cases, the treatment of detainees, and the state's preparedness for potential domestic unrest.
