Iranian judiciary restructuring and policy priorities

The Iranian judiciary has undergone a significant management reshuffle involving the removal of nine senior officials across several institutions, including the Prisons Organization, the Tehran Judiciary, and the General Inspection Organization. Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei indicated that further changes are expected, including new appointments for the Supreme Court and provincial judiciaries. Legal experts have noted that these shifts, occurring alongside new legislation to ‘combat foreign influence’, may impact the handling of political and security cases.

Following these structural changes, judicial officials have articulated new institutional priorities. Prosecutor General Mohammad Movahedi-Azad emphasized the importance of strengthening prosecutors and maintaining judicial independence. Additionally, regional officials have focused on administrative efficiency and economic support, such as preventing manufacturing shutdowns due to bureaucracy and optimizing resource management within the forensic medicine department.
