Iran limits free Hormuz Strait passage to 60 days, retains control
Iranian cease‑fire negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told state TV that, under the recently signed memorandum of understanding with the United States, free transit through the Hormuz Strait will be permitted for only 60 days. He said the measure is a temporary solution to allow vessels blocked during the war to move and emphasized that the strait remains Iranian territory, with Iran retaining full control and refusing to relinquish any rights.
Ghalibaf added that no new negotiations will occur until the five clauses of the MOU are fully implemented. He warned that any breach of the cease‑fire terms could lead to a military response. The official also noted that after the U.S. lifted its naval blockade, Iran sold about 40 million barrels of oil at roughly 20 % higher prices, indicating that sanctions have effectively ended.
