Iran maintains Strait of Hormuz blockade amid regional tensions
Tensions in the Middle East remain high as Iran maintains a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and Qatar denies reports regarding the detention of Iranian pilots.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated that the strategic waterway will only be opened under Iranian command, warning the United States to accept the reality of defeat. The blockade has severely impacted global oil exports, with President Donald Trump advising Americans to prepare for high fuel prices as peace talks remain stalled.
Separately, the Qatari Foreign Ministry categorically denied claims that it had detained Iranian pilots. Spokesperson Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari described such reports as “misleading” and noted they arrived during sensitive diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions. Qatar clarified that after attempting to contact pilots who breached its airspace, authorities took necessary measures to defend its territory in accordance with international law. Qatari search and rescue teams reportedly coordinated with Iran to hand over the remains of one pilot.
