Iran meat import prices projected to reach 1.4 million tomans per kg

Seyyed Fakhruddin Amarian, head of the Association of Meat and Raw Livestock Products Importers, has projected that the price of imported boneless meat will range between 1.3 million and 1.4 million tomans per kilogram. This estimate is contingent upon currency allocation and the stability of exchange rates.

Amarian noted that meat imports from the beginning of the year through September are expected to reach 16,000 to 17,000 tons. However, a higher demand is anticipated in the second half of the year due to the reopening of schools and universities. To meet domestic needs, Iran requires an additional 60,000 to 70,000 tons of red meat from countries including India, Russia, Brazil, and Pakistan.

Several factors are contributing to rising costs and decreased import volumes, including currency fluctuations in the second hall (from 150,000 to 160,000 tomans), banking difficulties for importers, and the increased expense of land-based imports through neighboring countries. Amarian called for assistance from the Central Bank to facilitate more imports and stabilize market prices.
