U.S. CENTCOM launches fresh attacks and reinstates sea blockade on Iran

On July 14 2026 the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a new wave of air and missile strikes aimed at Iranian military capabilities used to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time the United States re‑imposed a full sea blockade of Iranian ports and coastal facilities, set to take effect at 23:00 local time (16:00 ET). The blockade authorises U.S. naval forces to intercept, divert or seize any vessel heading to or from Iranian ports; more than 20 warships and hundreds of aircraft are now operating in the region.

President Donald Trump ordered the measures, cancelled a previously planned 20 % transit‑fee on Hormuz traffic and said the United States will pursue trade and investment agreements with Gulf states instead. Iranian officials condemned the actions, declared the Islamabad Accord void and warned that the United States cannot force Tehran to negotiate. Explosions were reported in Bandar Abbas and on Kish Island, and Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the attacks will not be tolerated.

The heightened tensions have drawn in neighboring countries: Kuwait activated its air‑defence systems, Oman reported injuries on a tanker targeted near its waters, and Israel’s Ben‑Gurion airport blocked U.S. fuel‑tanker landings. The developments mark the fourth day of intensified U.S.–Iran hostilities after a brief cease‑fire.
