Iran to increase third-tier gasoline prices to 10,000 Tomans
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced upcoming changes to the country's gasoline subsidy structure. Following coordination with various institutions, the price for the third tier of gasoline is set to increase from 5,000 Tomans to a maximum of 10,000 Tomans.
According to statements from Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad, the government plans to reduce subsidized quotas to manage consumption and address fuel shortages. Under the proposed plan, the 60-liter quota at 1,500 Tomans will be maintained, while the 70-liter quota at 3,000 Tomans will be reduced to 50 liters. Additionally, the 30-liter quota at 5,000 Tomans will be cut to 15 liters.
These measures aim to curb fuel consumption and compensate for deficits. Critics have suggested that instead of increasing prices, the government should focus on controlling fuel smuggling and pressuring domestic automakers to improve efficiency.
