Iran's oil exports have reached a near-standstill following a U.S. maritime blockade and the expiration of a 60-day temporary agreement. Abdolnaser Hemmati, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, admitted that the country is effectively unable to export oil, noting that similar situations have left Iraq and Qatar with zero revenue, though Iran faces the additional challenge of frozen foreign currency reserves.

Data from Kpler indicates that Iranian crude oil exports have dropped to an average of 287,000 barrels per day this month, a significant decline from the 2 million barrels per day recorded before recent Middle East conflicts. The blockade has reportedly trapped over 40 million barrels of oil on tankers in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

China, a major importer, has also seen its intake from Iran fall to an average of 523,000 barrels per day, down from previous highs. Beyond crude oil, exports of fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have also seen sharp declines. In response to the situation, Donald Trump has stated intentions to use economic power to isolate Iran on an unprecedented scale.
