Iranian parliament pushes Hormuz management bill as US‑Iran tensions flare

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will “take over” the Strait of Hormuz and impose a 20 percent fee on cargo, threatening to re‑impose a blockade of Iranian ports. He reiterated that the waterway is "open and will remain open, with or without Iran" on his Truth Social account.

In Tehran, hard‑line lawmakers presented the “Strategic Action for the Security and Sustainable Progress of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf” bill. Parliament’s security committee chief Ebrahim Azizi wrote on X that “we remain steadfast in defending our red lines, particularly regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz,” describing the proposal as the first step toward Iranian control and fees for transiting vessels. Meanwhile, the US has continued air strikes on Iranian targets, and Iran has responded with drone attacks on US‑linked sites in the region, keeping the strategic waterway disrupted and global oil markets volatile.
