Iran Parliament considers reducing weekly working hours
The Iranian Parliament's Social Commission is moving forward with an amendment to Article 87 of the Civil Service Management Law. The proposed changes aim to reduce the weekly working hours for covered agencies from 44 to 42.5 hours.
Under this amendment, the government would be granted the authority to redistribute these hours across a five-day workweek (Saturday to Wednesday), effectively allowing for Thursdays to be non-working days for administrative sectors. However, essential service providers—including customs, hospitals, medical centers, and fire departments—would be exempt from this change to ensure 24/7 operational availability.
