Iran President Mesud Pezeşkiyan backs Hamas in Gaza talks, cites national hardships
Iranian President Mesud Pezeşkiyan said Tehran will fully support Hamas in the ongoing Gaza negotiations, promising to back any decision, initiative or step taken by the Palestinian leadership. He referenced a phone conversation with Hamas Political Bureau chairman Khalil al‑Hayya in which he affirmed Iran’s commitment.
Pezeşkiyan also described Iran’s current situation as the toughest post‑revolution period, pointing to U.S.–Israel attacks, renewed UN Security Council sanctions, and severe shortages of electricity, natural gas and water. He highlighted internal unrest, a 12‑day war with Israel, and the 28 February attacks, while crediting the Iranian people’s resilience for keeping the country afloat.
Separately, media reports claimed a secret meeting between Pezeşkiyan and senior religious figure Mücteba Hamaney took place inside a completely darkened commercial vehicle, with the president later expressing uncertainty about whether the meeting actually occurred.
