Iran President Pezeshkian warns of deepening economic crisis
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that the country’s economic crisis is deepening due to rising costs and declining state revenues. He attributed the surge in inflation and product prices to US naval blockades and sanctions, which have forced imports to travel through longer, more expensive routes rather than direct channels.
In addition to increased transportation costs, Pezeshkian noted a significant drop in government income resulting from reduced oil sales. He stated that Iran is currently unable to sell oil at its previous levels. The president also highlighted that damage to industrial facilities during recent conflicts with the United States and Israel has hindered production and reduced the government's ability to collect tax revenues from affected factories.
The economic strain is being felt by citizens, with reports indicating that some supermarkets have begun rationing essential goods, such as rice, to manage supply shortages.
