Iran prisoners launch hunger strike in 59 prisons

Prisoners participating in the ‘No to Execution’ campaign have launched a hunger strike across 59 prisons in Iran for the 133rd consecutive week. The protest aims to oppose the issuance and implementation of death sentences.

According to a statement from the campaign, at least 342 prisoners have been executed since the beginning of the year 1405 (Persian calendar), including 10 women, two individuals who were minors at the time of their crimes, and 37 political prisoners. The campaign also highlighted the death sentences issued to Mojtaba Dehbandi and Kianoush Hamzeei, two detainees from the Shiraz protests, describing their judicial processes as ‘unfair and non-transparent.’

The movement reported that despite security pressures, such as the transfer of protesting prisoners to solitary confinement and the creation of new legal cases against them, the scope of the protest continues to expand across various facilities, including Evin, Qezel Hesar, and prisons in cities such as Mashhad, Tabriz, and Ahvaz.
