Iran's 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign expands to 61 prisons
The 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign has entered its 135th week, with prisoners in 61 different facilities across Iran participating in weekly hunger strikes to protest the death penalty. The movement recently expanded to include Noor Prison in Gilan Province.
Recent developments include the executions of political prisoners Ghaem Hosseini and Majid Adineh, both of whom were reportedly detained during January protests. Additionally, the Supreme Court has upheld death sentences for several other individuals, including Arghavan Fallahi in Evin Women’s Prison and Rasoul Rezaei in Mashhad’s Vakilabad Prison. There are also growing concerns regarding Mohammad Reza Majidi-Asl following his transfer to Ghezel Hesar prison.
Campaign organizers and human rights groups report that over 4,000 executions have taken place since the start of President Pezeshkian’s administration.
