Iran seeks peace through US memorandum of understanding
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran is prepared to pursue a path of peace based on the terms of the recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States. He emphasized that this pursuit is contingent on Washington helping to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and moving past previous patterns of distrust.
Pezeshkian noted that Iran's level of commitment will match the degree of U.S. compliance with the MoU. He also highlighted that final policy decisions and Iranian actions would ultimately be guided by the decisions of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. The President warned that Iran would not accept the use of force or be compelled to surrender.
In addition to these statements, Pezeshkian denied recent rumors regarding his resignation, affirming his intention to continue his duties. The MoU, signed in June to address regional conflicts including in Lebanon, had set a 60-day window for final negotiations, though recent regional escalations have introduced uncertainty regarding the process.
