Iran Rebuilds Nuclear Facilities Amid Cease‑fire Concerns
CNN obtained exclusive satellite images from Vantor and, in partnership with the Institute for Science and International Security, identified repair and reconstruction work at several Iranian sites in late June and early July 2026. At the Parchin military complex, the underground Taleghan 2 facility – believed to store explosive material for nuclear weapons – showed concrete‑cover installations, rebar placement and vehicle activity. Nearby, the Pickaxe Mountain underground complex also displayed frequent vehicle movements in its tunnels. Additional activity was observed at missile bases and at a new pavement project at the Tabriz airfield.
The timing of the work coincides with the United States‑Iran memorandum of understanding signed on 17 June, which required Tehran to maintain the “status‑quo” of its nuclear program. Analysts say the construction could constitute a breach of that agreement, especially as the cease‑fire negotiated at the NATO summit appears to be unraveling. U.S. officials have linked the observations to broader concerns over Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities and have reiterated pressure on Tehran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
Both Iran and the United States have been asked for comment; the Pentagon declined to discuss operational details.
