Iran reports 87 executions and increased prison repression

In July 2026, Iran reported a significant escalation in executions and pressure on detainees. At least 87 prisoners were executed, including nine political prisoners and two juvenile offenders who were under 18 at the time of their alleged offenses. Of these 87 executions, 73 were not officially announced by Iranian authorities.

Reports also highlight intensifying repression within the prison system. At Evin Prison, guards reportedly raided specific wards, beating prisoners and destroying personal belongings under the pretext of searches. The whereabouts of several prisoners remain unknown following these raids. Additionally, political prisoner Masoud Jamei was reportedly transferred to solitary confinement in Ahvaz's Sheiban Prison after protesting poor conditions.

Judicial pressure continues, with cases such as Parisa Kamali scheduled for trial in Yazd on charges including membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Meanwhile, approximately 1,500 death-row prisoners at Qezel Hesar Prison have engaged in a prolonged hunger strike to protest prison conditions.
