Iran reshuffles military leadership and security council
Iran has undergone a significant restructuring of its military and security leadership. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued orders appointing several high-ranking officials to key positions within the armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Ahmad Vahidi has been promoted to Major General and appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC. Ali Abdollahi has been named Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, and Ali Ozmaei has taken command of the IRGC Navy. Additionally, Hossein Taeb has been appointed to lead the Basij militia.
In a major political shift, Mohsen Rezaee, a veteran IRGC commander, has been appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. This move is viewed by analysts as a consolidation of power by hardline military factions, potentially to counterbalance more moderate elements within the government.
Simultaneously, tensions remain high regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Rezaei stated that maritime navigation in the strait will not resume until Iran's conditions—including the lifting of US maritime blockades and frozen assets, and a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon—are met. Amidst these leadership changes, the IRGC also claimed advancements in missile technology, asserting that new models can alter their flight paths to evade enemy air defense systems.
