Iran says strikes on US bases are lawful self‑defence after 60‑day ceasefire collapses

Iran’s Foreign Ministry declared its recent attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan and Qatar to be lawful acts of self‑defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The ministry said the strikes were a direct response to three waves of U.S. attacks launched this week after a 60‑day cease‑fire, signed on 17 June, broke down.

Tehran added that the United States had violated the cease‑fire by striking Iranian territory and Gulf states, prompting Iran to hit U.S. facilities and to attack targets in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. The Iranian foreign minister asserted, “L’Iran ha mantenuto la parola data,” emphasizing that Iran kept its word while the U.S. did not.

Analysts note that market pricing shows a 16.5 % probability of a U.S. invasion of Iran before 2027, reflecting uncertainty about whether the conflict will expand further.
