Iran says US must honor memorandum before any new talks
Iranian officials warned that Tehran will not resume negotiations with the United States unless Washington fully complies with the commitments outlined in the recent memorandum of understanding. Senior negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the free‑passage arrangement for vessels in the Strait of Hormuz is limited to 60 days and that Iran will defend its sovereign rights, even preparing for war if necessary. He noted that after the US naval blockade was lifted, Iran exported more than 40 million barrels of oil, whereas in the preceding 50‑60 days it exported none.
President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed the same condition, stating that Iran will meet its obligations only if the United States does. He added that an Iranian diplomatic delegation plans to visit Qatar in the coming days, a trip not linked to any US presence.
The statements underline Tehran’s demand for reciprocal adherence to the agreement before any further dialogue on ending regional tensions.
