Iran accuses US of breaching ceasefire memorandum as fighting escalates

Iran’s top officials say the United States has repeatedly violated a 14‑point memorandum of understanding signed on June 17, which was intended to halt hostilities, lift the naval blockade and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that Iran has suspended its own obligations after Washington’s alleged breaches, and Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei declared the US president’s signature “worthless and invalid.”

President Donald Trump dismissed Tehran’s move, stating in a telephone interview that he “couldn’t care less.” The breakdown follows renewed US airstrikes on Iranian infrastructure and Iranian retaliatory attacks on US bases in the region, raising concerns over further escalation in the Middle East.
