Iran Security Council Chief Warns US Actions May Tighten Hormuz Closure

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary, Mohammad Bagher Zolqadr, warned that continued U.S. naval pressure and what he called "warmongering" would tighten the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and could force the shutdown of additional maritime chokepoints. He said the move would hurt the global economy and energy markets and ultimately cost American voters, as the strait handles about one‑fifth of worldwide oil shipments.

Zolqadr’s remarks come amid heightened tensions after Iran previously announced a temporary closure of the strait in response to U.S. actions, and after a recent memorandum of understanding that had allowed fee‑free transit for a limited period.
