Iran seeks return to Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding

Iran’s Ministry of Interior has announced that diplomatic efforts are underway to encourage a return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The Iranian side has called for the other party to honor the agreement, which has been endorsed by Iran’s Supreme Leader and the Supreme National Security Council.

Pakistan is playing a central role in these diplomatic maneuvers. A high-level Pakistani delegation, potentially led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, is expected to travel to Tehran soon to maintain communication and address regional tensions. This follows previous mediation efforts by Pakistan that led to a ceasefire agreement in April.

The push for diplomatic stability comes amid significant regional volatility, including tensions involving Saudi Arabia and Houthi attacks. Pakistan is attempting to balance its security commitments to Saudi Arabia and Türkiye with its role as a mediator between Iran and the United States.
