Iran seeks to expand Halal industry presence in global markets

Mehdi Pirsalehi, head of the Food and Drug Administration, highlighted the significant economic potential of the Halal industry during the International Halal and Health Conference. He noted that the Halal concept has expanded beyond food to include pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, dietary supplements, cosmetics, tourism, and healthcare services.

Pirsalehi emphasized the need for Islamic countries to increase their market share, noting that a substantial portion of Halal products is currently produced in non-Muslim countries, such as China. To address this, Iran is working to strengthen its National Halal Network through coordination between various entities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Standards Organization.

Regarding pharmaceutical supplies, Pirsalehi stated that Iran's strategic drug reserves, including raw materials and manufactured medicines, are in a favorable condition. While he acknowledged that the cost of importing certain medicines has increased due to currency and import challenges, he confirmed that domestically produced insulin remains widely available and affordable. He also noted that while hospital medicine shortages are minimal, many hospitals face difficulties in paying long-standing debts to pharmaceutical suppliers.
