Iran sentences Kurdish activists and protest sisters to long prison terms

Iranian courts sentenced two Kurdish Yarsan activists, cousins Sajjad Veisi, 30, and Shayan Veisi, to death‑penalty charges of "moharebeh" after their arrests during the January 2026 protests. The men have been held for four months in the central prison of Kermanshah and face a possible execution, according to human‑rights group Hengaw.

In a separate case, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced sisters Kimia Davoudi and Tara Davoudi to ten and six years in prison, respectively, for participating in the same nationwide demonstrations. The sisters are detained in the women’s ward of Evin Prison. Both cases reflect a broader crackdown on dissent following the January 2026 protests across Iran.
