Iran sentences twin sisters to death and decades in prison

Twin sisters Taraneh and Romina Rahimi have received severe sentences from the Isfahan Revolutionary Court following their arrest during anti-regime protests in Isfahan, Iran. Taraneh Rahimi, now 20, has been sentenced to death and an additional 11 years in prison. Her twin, Romina, was sentenced to 36 years in prison.

The sisters were reportedly arrested by masked men in the middle of the night and held in solitary confinement. Family members reported that the twins showed signs of physical abuse, including severely swollen and bruised faces, injuries to their limbs, and significant hair loss.

The twins are part of the “Isfahan Shohada Square” case involving 16 defendants. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), 10 of these defendants received death sentences, with the group collectively receiving 256 years in prison. These rulings are currently considered initial-stage verdicts.
