Iran signals readiness for regional dialogue and Mecca Defense Pact participation
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed Iran's readiness to resolve regional disputes through dialogue and regional mechanisms. During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran, Pezeshkian stated that Iran sees no fundamental differences with neighboring countries and welcomes joint initiatives to promote peace, security, and economic development.
Pezeshkian criticized United States interventions and the presence of American military bases in the region, claiming they increase tensions. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among Islamic nations and utilizing multilateral organizations such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Eurasian Economic Union to support regional infrastructure and trade.
In a separate development, Pezeshkian announced Iran's willingness to participate in the Mecca Defense Pact, a mutual defense alliance involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. He called for the unification of Islamic nations rather than division into conflicting camps. Pezeshkian noted that he conveyed a message to Saudi Arabia via the Pakistani Prime Minister, suggesting the Kingdom could serve as a center for Islamic unity.
