US launches eighth consecutive strike on Iran after two soldiers killed in Jordan

The United States carried out its eighth night of airstrikes against Iran, targeting coastal surveillance, air‑defence sites, missile and drone storage facilities, bridges and other logistics infrastructure in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province and around Sirik and Chabahar. The attacks were ordered by President Donald Trump and described by CENTCOM as a rapid response to Iranian strikes on U.S. forces in Jordan that killed two service members, left a third missing and wounded four others.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps retaliated with missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, hitting a U.S. ammunition depot at Camp Arifjan, radar installations at Ali Al Salem and a desalination plant in Kuwait, which disrupted water supplies for about 10,000 residents. Iran also claimed to have downed two U.S. fighter jets in Jordan. The escalating exchange has raised concerns about the security of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, pushed oil prices up more than 4 % and prompted a global security alert from the U.S. State Department.

The United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres expressed worry over the targeting of civilian infrastructure, while U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the sacrifice of the fallen “stiffens our resolve.” The conflict now threatens regional stability and global energy markets.
