Iran Supreme Court confirms death sentence in murder case; Ilam inmate freed after settlement

The defendant, arrested after the incident, admitted to delivering a single knife wound in self‑defence and denied responsibility for a second strike. His lawyer argued that medical factors might have contributed to the victim's death, but the Tehran court affirmed the lower‑court ruling after the victim's heirs had initially demanded execution.

In a separate case in Ilam province, a prisoner sentenced to death for murder eight years ago was released after the victim’s heirs withdrew their demand for execution, accepting blood‑money payments and other obligations. The case was resolved through a settlement, allowing the inmate to regain his freedom.
