Iran Supreme Court upholds death sentence for Manouchehr Fallah
The Iranian Supreme Court has re-confirmed the death sentence for Manouchehr Fallah, a political prisoner currently held in Lakan Prison, Rasht. The case has been forwarded to the criminal execution unit in Rasht for implementation.
Fallah was sentenced by the first branch of the Rasht Revolutionary Court following a retrial. He faces charges of ‘moharebeh’ (enmity against God) related to an incident on June 1, 2023, involving a small sound bomb or firecracker that caused approximately 15 million tomans in damage to the Gilan Justice Department building. Defense attorney Milad Panahipour has argued that the act caused no physical injuries and that the legal basis for the death penalty in this context is unfounded.
Fallah, a 42-year-old tattoo artist, was originally arrested at Rasht airport in July 2023. His legal history includes previous convictions for insulting the leadership and propaganda against the regime. Human rights sources claim the judicial process has been unfair and lacked access to chosen legal counsel.
