Iran Supreme Court upholds death sentence for woman in Tehran murder case
The Supreme Court of Iran has upheld the death sentence for a woman convicted of murder in Tehran. The case involved the killing of a middle-aged woman named Zahra, whose body was found in her home in eastern Tehran three years ago. Following a review of surveillance footage and a confession during interrogation, the defendant, identified as Sara, was sentenced to death by the Tehran Criminal Court, a ruling which the Supreme Court has now confirmed.
In separate developments, five prisoners facing the death penalty for murder have been spared execution following the consent of the victims' families. These individuals were held in Isfahan, Lorestan, Qazvin, Bandar Abbas, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari. In Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, the prisoner from the Bazaft region was released after mediation efforts by peace activists led to the families' agreement. Similarly, in Qazvin, the judiciary confirmed the release of a prisoner after securing the consent of the victims' legal heirs.
