Iran targets 130,000 supportive housing units by year-end
Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has announced a target to open 130,000 supportive housing units by the end of the year. Minister Farzaneh Sadegh noted that approximately 850,000 supportive housing units are currently under construction, with 250,000 of those managed by the Housing Foundation of the Islamic Revolution. The Minister emphasized that more than 700,000 eligible applicants are still awaiting final determination.
Regarding worker housing, the Ministry aims to utilize the capacity of industries, mines, and factories to provide housing for laborers. While the Ministry is responsible for land supply and preparation, industries are expected to provide facilities and worker contributions.
In Tehran province, officials reported that roughly 50,000 units under the National Housing Movement are underway. Reza Khaleghi, Director General of Roads and Urban Development for Tehran, stated that applicants who fail to meet financial commitments may be moved to projects with lower progress or eventually removed from the lists to protect the rights of those who have fulfilled their financial obligations. Khaleghi also noted a decline in building permit issuances, citing rising costs and other economic factors.
