Iran threatens ‘full attack’ as ceasefire deadline expires

Iran is threatening to shift its military stance to a ‘full attack’ following the collapse of diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East. An Iranian official told Reuters that armed forces and allies are preparing to escalate actions in the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding region.

The threat comes as the 60-day deadline for a permanent peace agreement, established by a memorandum of understanding signed in June by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expired on Monday. Negotiations had previously stalled in July due to disagreements regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route through which approximately one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas flows.

U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated he will not extend the temporary ceasefire agreement. Iranian officials have warned that if diplomacy fails, they may conduct a ‘timely and precise’ military operation to break the American naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Gulf.
