Iran threatens retaliation against US bases amid naval blockade

Iran’s central military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has warned of “continuous, effective and painful” attacks against United States bases and interests in the Middle East if Washington resumes military strikes against the country. The Iranian command stated that any renewed US assault would trigger retaliation and warned regional nations that providing territory or facilities to support US attacks would result in them being “considered complicit” in the conflict.

This escalation follows the enforcement of a US naval blockade on Iranian ports. US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that its forces have redirected 109 commercial vessels to ensure compliance with the blockade.

In response to the rising tensions, US President Donald Trump stated he is in a “deciding mode” regarding Iran, noting that his options include military action, economic pressure, or a diplomatic deal. He expressed openness to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have indicated that conditions for renewed negotiations include an end to US attacks, the release of frozen funds, and the lifting of the naval blockade.
