Iran threatens to block Strait of Hormuz oil exports

Iran’s security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, has issued a stern warning to neighboring countries, stating they will be treated as “enemies” if they participate in the United States' economic pressure campaign against Tehran.

Rezaei, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, threatened to block all oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf if regional nations cooperate with Washington. He further warned that Iran might target alternative oil export routes in the region. Rezaei characterized a potential Iranian response to further US actions as being “like an earthquake.”

These threats follow an announcement by US President Donald Trump regarding an unprecedented scale of economic warfare and isolation aimed at Iran. In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi dismissed the effectiveness of such measures, noting that previous rounds of heavy sanctions have failed to achieve their goals. The Iranian foreign ministry also described the imminent US sanctions as an assertion of extraterritorial sovereignty over independent UN member states.
