Iran threatens to kill a U.S. soldier for each Iranian casualty amid Hormuz tensions

Iran’s top military command announced that Tehran will kill a U.S. service member for every Iranian killed, a warning relayed by Reuters and attributed to Iranian state media. At the same time, Foreign Minister Abas Arghati declared that a cease‑fire will not be accepted unless Iran’s demands over the Strait of Hormuz are satisfied.

An Omani diplomatic mission arrived in Tehran to discuss mechanisms for managing navigation through the Hormuz Strait, while Pakistan, urged by China, is seeking to revive frozen U.S.–Iran negotiations. The Wall Street Journal reported that Bahrain and Qatar secretly deployed combat aircraft against Iranian targets earlier this month. In retaliation, Iran’s army said it launched drone strikes on U.S. bases in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait, and claimed attacks on U.S. facilities in the region.

These developments heighten the risk of further escalation between Iran and the United States and involve several Gulf states and regional actors.
