Iran threatens to target U.S. interests and oil routes
Mohsen Rezaee, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has issued warnings against the United States and neighboring countries regarding ongoing economic pressures. Rezaee stated that any economic warfare waged by the U.S. would be met with strict measures targeting oil movement in the Gulf, including potential strikes against American commercial interests both within the region and abroad.
Rezaee warned neighboring nations that participating in efforts to isolate the Iranian economy could result in their interests being targeted, labeling such participants as enemies. He further threatened to target alternative oil shipping routes outside the Strait of Hormuz if regional neighbors join U.S.-led economic restrictions.
These threats follow a renewed campaign by U.S. President Donald Trump to isolate the Iranian economy. The tension comes amid a period of instability following the collapse of a previous ceasefire, leaving Iran in control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage for global oil supplies. While Rezaee emphasized that Iran seeks to avoid open military confrontation and is willing to return to negotiations if previous commitments are met, he maintained that strategic tools will be used to protect national rights.
