Iran to Administer Strait of Hormuz Under New US‑Iran Deal

Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf announced that Tehran will assume administrative control of the Strait of Hormuz. The statement follows a memorandum of understanding signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezehshian and U.S. President Donald Trump after intensive talks mediated by Pakistan and other regional actors.

The agreement establishes joint communication channels to avoid incidents, reopens the strategic waterway for commercial shipping, and includes a temporary U.S. easing of sanctions and an oil‑sale licence for Iran. Ghalibaf stressed that the strait "will never return to its pre‑war condition" and will be managed by Iran in accordance with international law.

The deal also touches on related issues such as the situation in Lebanon and the release of frozen assets, aiming to reduce tensions in the broader Middle‑East region.
