Iran to pilot gasoline subsidy transfer to bank cards

Iran is set to begin a pilot program to transfer gasoline subsidies from fuel cards to bank cards. Starting in late September (Mehr), the initiative will be implemented in five provinces before a gradual nationwide rollout is expected by the end of the year.

During a meeting of the Iranian Parliament's Energy Commission, officials discussed optimizing fuel consumption in accordance with the Seventh Development Plan. The session included representatives from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance and the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company.

In addition to the subsidy transition, authorities are focusing on diversifying the national fuel mix. Efforts include increasing the use of CNG, LPG, and electricity for electric vehicles. Currently, CNG consumption has reached approximately 17 million cubic meters per day, with a national capacity of 35 million cubic meters. Plans are also underway to construct LPG stations in major cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, and Qazvin, and to integrate electric vehicle charging stations into existing fuel stations.
