Iran urges citizens to limit air‑conditioner use as power grid strains after US strikes

Iran's Ministry of Energy has asked residents to reduce air‑conditioner use during peak hours to help stabilise electricity supply in the southern provinces. The request follows a series of U.S. air strikes that damaged transmission lines and other infrastructure in the south, causing outages in cities such as Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and on Qeshm Island. Temperatures in the region have exceeded 50 °C, intensifying demand for cooling.

The ministry advises users to switch off air‑conditioners for an hour during the busiest periods—typically between 10 am‑11 am and 4 pm‑5 pm, and especially at night. Officials say the measure will preserve the grid while repairs are undertaken. The United States has stated that its strikes targeted solely military facilities and denied hitting civilian power assets.
