Iran urges increased readiness against cyber threats

Mohammad Reza Aref, the First Vice President of Iran, has called for increased readiness to confront ongoing cyber threats. Speaking at a meeting of the Cybersecurity Science and Technology Board, Aref warned that adversaries continue to plot against the country despite recent setbacks.

To bolster national security, Iran aims to become a regional leader in advanced technologies and a global influencer. Aref highlighted the importance of cooperating with regional blocs, specifically the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS, to enhance cybersecurity capabilities. He also emphasized the critical role of human capital and the need to support specialized experts in the field.

Proposed initiatives include a program to strengthen cybersecurity through improved accountability, redesigned security architectures, and the implementation of a ‘zero trust’ model for critical infrastructure. Additionally, progress was reported on the ‘Cybersecurity Complex’ project, which is intended to serve as a platform for developing strategic technologies and achieving sustainable cyber capabilities.
