Iran urges Israeli pullout from Lebanon in call with Lebanese parliamentary speaker
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf spoke by phone with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, saying Tehran is determined to end Israel's military actions in Lebanon and to safeguard Lebanese territorial integrity. Ghalibaf referred to the first paragraph of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the United States, which calls for a cease‑fire in Lebanon. Berri praised Iran’s diplomatic efforts in Switzerland but accused the United States of trying to sideline Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Both leaders stressed the need to convene the newly created “conflict‑de‑escalation” unit to deal with the ongoing Israeli incursions. Lebanon’s health ministry reports more than 4,200 deaths and over 12,000 injuries since the fighting began on 2 March.
