Iran urges non‑interference as it pledges to restore Strait of Hormuz capacity within 30 days

Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters that, under a memorandum of understanding with the United States, the Strait of Hormuz will be returned to its pre‑war operating capacity within 30 days. The restoration will be managed by Iran after it removes all obstacles it deems responsible for the current disruptions. Araghchi called on all parties to respect the agreement and refrain from intervening in the strait’s management.

The remarks came after a series of escalations: on 27 June Iran used a drone to strike the bridge of the tanker “Kiku,” which was carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude under the Panamanian flag through the strait. The United States responded with airstrikes on multiple Iranian targets, ordered by President Donald Trump, marking the second consecutive night of U.S. attacks. Iran warned that any further interference would complicate the reopening of the strait and increase regional tension.
