Iran-U.S. peace negotiations stall over Persian Gulf agreement
Diplomatic efforts to revive a temporary peace agreement in the Persian Gulf between Iran and the United States have stalled. Iranian officials report that there has been no progress in discussions aimed at establishing a timeline or guarantees for the resumption of commitments made in June.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran has not yet decided whether to resume direct negotiations with the U.S. While intermediaries such as Qatar and Pakistan are transmitting messages between the two nations, direct talks remain suspended. The impasse follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s July 7 declaration that the previous agreement had ended.
Tensions are heightened by disputes over the Strait of Hormuz. The United States accuses Iran of obstructing commercial navigation in the strategic waterway, while Iran contends that Washington has failed to meet its obligations, specifically regarding the lifting of port blockades and the release of frozen Iranian assets.
