US soldier deaths reach 16 as Iran‑US conflict intensifies in the Middle East
U.S. Central Command confirmed that the death toll of American personnel in the conflict with Iran has risen to 16 after two soldiers were killed and a third went missing during an Iranian Revolutionary Guard missile attack on a Jordanian air base. The U.S. has placed more than 50,000 troops on high alert in the region.
In response to the escalating violence, the United States has moved additional combat aircraft to the Middle East, including F‑16s from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, F‑35s from RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom, and KC‑135 tanker aircraft operating from Istres Air Base in France to support fighter deployments.
Iran has intensified its retaliation, striking U.S. installations in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain with missiles and drones, and has also attacked a partially built Darhovin nuclear plant near the Iraqi border. Iranian leaders warned that the United States will face “unforgettable lessons.” The ongoing airstrikes target Iranian energy facilities, coastal surveillance sites, and shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over regional security and global oil supply.
